Study engineering abroad from Nepal

For engineering, Germany, Australia and Denmark are where most of our students go: Germany for low tuition and industry, Australia for English-speaking jobs, Denmark for practical degrees. You'll need +2 science with maths, or a BE for a master's. Last year 132 of our 141 engineering files were approved, our highest rate of the big fields.

Students who chose engineering

  • Aayush Poudel

MSc Mechanical Engineering, October 2025 intake

The €11,904 blocked account scared the family. Planned 5 months ahead with a loan, it went through without a surprise.

MSc Civil Engineering, October 2025 intake

A 2.9 CGPA and 2 years on construction sites. His site experience got him past the cut-off his marks alone didn't.

Country by country

Where to study engineering

The question is not only where the degree is good. It's where you can work as an engineer afterwards, and in most of Europe that means learning the local language.

Hydropower, roads and building work in Nepal count. Sushant got into an energy master's in Trondheim on 2 years of hydropower experience, and Dipesh got past a German cut-off with site experience his marks alone didn't cover.

Entry requirements

What you need from Nepal

  • After +2: science with maths and physics, usually with good marks in both. Germany asks most +2 students to do a Studienkolleg year first.
  • For a master's: a BE or BSc in the same or a related branch. A civil engineer applying for mechanical has to explain the switch.
  • Low marks: courses that weigh work experience, academy profession degrees in Denmark, or diplomas in Australia.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 for most master's, 6.0 for many bachelor's. Some German courses also ask for basic German.

Levels and course types

Which level fits you

  • Bachelor's in engineering (3 to 4 years): straight after +2.
  • Academy profession degree (2 years in Denmark): practical, cheaper, and can lead into a top-up bachelor's. Rabin went this way from +2.
  • Master's (1 year in the UK, 1.5 to 2 years elsewhere): the most common route for our students with a BE.

Registration and language

Before you can work in the field

Engineering is a registered profession in most countries. In Australia, Engineers Australia assesses your qualification before you can migrate as an engineer. Degrees from Nepal usually go through a Competency Demonstration Report, which takes longer than an accredited Australian degree.

In Germany, the title Ingenieur is protected, and a foreign degree may need recognition before you use it. Back home, you'd register with the Nepal Engineering Council.

After study

Jobs, honestly

Engineering has one of the strongest job markets of the fields we cover, if you can work in the local language. In Germany, most engineering jobs outside big international firms ask for German at B1 or B2. Students who start German in Nepal, before they fly, find work faster.

In Australia the language problem disappears, but the cost goes up and local experience matters. An internship during your degree is worth more than a second specialisation.

How we help

Your engineering application

We check that your course follows from your BE or +2 subjects, find courses that weigh experience if your marks are low, and plan Studienkolleg, German classes or the Norwegian 1 December deadline in good time.

For Germany we also plan the €11,904 blocked account months ahead, the step most families find hardest. Aayush planned it 5 months early.

An honest note

This isn't the right course for you if

  • You won't learn German, Danish or Norwegian and want to work as an engineer in that country. Look at Australia or the UK instead.
  • Your +2 had no maths or physics. Engineering bachelor's will refuse you.
  • You want the cheapest course regardless of branch. A master's that doesn't follow from your BE is a weak visa file.

Questions about studying engineering abroad

Which country is best for engineering for Nepali students?

Germany for low tuition and industry, Australia for English-speaking jobs, Denmark for practical degrees. The best one depends on your marks, your budget and whether you'll learn the local language.

Can I study engineering in Germany for free?

Tuition is free at most public universities, but you'll need the €11,904 blocked account for living costs and, after +2, usually a Studienkolleg year. See Germany.

Can I study engineering abroad after +2 with low marks?

Yes, through a 2-year academy profession degree in Denmark or a diploma in Australia. Some routes need maths of at least B in +2.

Is my BE from Nepal recognised abroad?

For a master's, yes, at most universities we work with. To work as an engineer, each country assesses it separately: Engineers Australia in Australia, recognition offices in Germany.

Is engineering good for PR?

Engineering appears on more skill lists than most fields, but lists change and no course guarantees PR. In Europe, the local language matters as much as the degree.

Can I change my engineering branch for a master's?

Between close branches, often yes, with the right subjects in your BE. A bigger switch needs a clear reason and some experience, or the visa officer will question it.

Still unsure?
