Study a master's in public health abroad from Nepal

For public health, the UK, Norway and the Netherlands are where most of our students go, for 1 to 2-year master's taught in English. Most courses want a health or science degree, and work experience in Nepal makes the strongest file. Last year 187 of our 201 nursing and health files were approved.

Public health is a career move, not a route into nursing or medicine abroad. It doesn't register you to treat patients in any country. If you want bedside work, see nursing.

Sabina did an MSc Public Health in Leeds after 4 years as a nurse. Binita chose global health in Oslo because the course matched her work in Nepal, not because Norway sounded free.

Entry requirements

What you need from Nepal

  • A health or science bachelor's: BPH, BSc Nursing, MBBS, pharmacy, BSc in a life science. Some courses accept social science with health work.
  • Work experience: not always required, but 2 years or more in a hospital, health post, NGO or project in Nepal is what makes a file stand out.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 to 7.0 for most courses.

Levels and course types

Which level fits you

  • Master's in public health (MPH or MSc) (1 to 2 years): the main route.
  • Global health master's (1 to 2 years): more international, often with fieldwork.
  • Specialised master's in epidemiology, health economics or health policy: for graduates with a clear direction.

Registration and language

Before you can work in the field

Public health has no licence to practise. Your clinical registration in Nepal (nursing, medicine or pharmacy) stays what it is; an MPH abroad doesn't change it or replace it.

What employers look for is fieldwork and data skills: survey design, statistics and a thesis on a real health problem.

After study

Jobs, honestly

Honestly: public health jobs abroad are hard to get without the local language and local experience. Most of our public health graduates build their careers with INGOs, UN agencies and the health sector in Nepal and South Asia, where the degree carries real weight.

If you want to settle abroad, plan for that before you choose the country, not after.

How we help

Your public health application

We match the course to your degree and work, help you show your experience in your statement, and explain the rules that change family plans, such as the UK's no-dependants rule, on the first call.

An honest note

This isn't the right course for you if

  • You want to work as a nurse or doctor abroad. Public health won't register you.
  • You have no health or science background and no health work. Most courses will refuse you.
  • You're counting on a public health job abroad to repay a big loan. Plan for work in Nepal or the region too.

Questions about studying public health abroad

Can I do a master's in public health abroad after BSc Nursing?

Yes, and nurses with work experience make some of the strongest public health files. It won't register you as a nurse abroad, though. See nursing for that route.

Which country is cheapest for an MPH from Nepal?

The Netherlands and some Nordic master's cost less than the UK and Australia once you count the whole course. Norway charges tuition to non-EU students now, so it isn't free.

Can I take my family on a public health master's?

Not to the UK on a taught master's. Other countries allow it with more money in your file. We'll tell you the rule for each on the first call.

Do I need work experience for an MPH?

Not always, but it makes your file stronger and your statement easier to write. 2 years in health work in Nepal is common among our students.

What jobs can I get after an MPH?

Programme, research and policy roles with INGOs, UN agencies, governments and hospitals. Jobs abroad usually need the local language and local experience.
