Reshma, one of our students in Antwerp, chose Belgium over the Netherlands for a biotechnology master's because it came out about Rs 9 lakh cheaper for a similar course.

Why the language of your university sets your fee

  • Flemish universities (Leuven, Ghent, Antwerp, Hasselt) teach many master's in English. Fees for non-EU students are about €6,000 to €12,000 a year.
  • French-speaking universities (Brussels, Louvain-la-Neuve, Liège) teach mostly in French. Fees are capped at about €4,175 a year for most non-EU students, but you'll usually need French.

For most Nepali students with English but no French, the Flemish side is the realistic one. Sonam, one of our students in Leuven, went for a tourism master's on the strength of 8 seasons as a trekking guide.

The money you must show for the visa

For the type D student visa you show €1,062 a month for the 2026–27 year, about €12,744 for 12 months, through a blocked account or a bank guarantee. The money is yours; it's released to you after you arrive.

  • Immigration Office fee: about €251 for a public institution, paid before the visa application
  • Type D visa fee: €250 from 1 July 2026
  • Medical certificate from an approved doctor and a police clearance from Nepal Police

Start the police clearance early. Prabin, one of our students in Ghent, applied for his weeks ahead so it didn't hold up the visa. The money leaves Nepal after your NOC.

What part-time work covers in Belgium

You can work 20 hours a week in term and more in official holidays. Student jobs in retail, hospitality, warehouses and events usually pay above €12 an hour, and Dutch or French helps a lot. Brussels has the most English-speaking jobs.

Plan to live on your funds; part-time work adds to them. After graduation, Belgium gives you a 12-month search year to look for work or start a business.

Belgium against other countries

Belgium is one of the better-value choices in Western Europe for a master's in English: cheaper than the Netherlands, the UK or Norway, with good public universities and a 12-month search year. It has fewer English-taught bachelor's, so most Nepali students come for a master's.
